Domestication of Fennec Foxes
Fennec foxes make amazing, unique exotic pets. Since they are very high energy animals and love to socialize and interact with the environment around them. They require a lot of extra work and adopting one of these foxes is similar to adopting a small child. They have a tendency to put small things in their mouth. This includes things like coins, earrings, wires, car keys, etc. and will possibly look for them around the house. It would not be a wise choice to adopt a fennec if you have a busy everyday life (full-time job, young kids, travel a lot, or have other young animals in the house). Keep in mind that their energetic side does not vanish as they age! Domesticated fennecs love to wrestle and play-fight with other animals and toys in the house as well as participate in mutual grooming. They are cuddly and very affectionate at times where they love to be scratched, petted and held. They are extremely hyper most other times They get along with any animal that is too big to fit in their mouth and will attempt to play with them. Fennec foxes are generally nocturnal animals, which means... they are active at night. Depending on the personality of each fox they may or may not be more or less vocal during the night. It is recommended that owners play with these pets as much as possible during the day and closer to the evening so that they have less trouble adjusting to human sleep schedules and placing their night-time space farther away from bedrooms and human sleeping quarters is a good idea. A sandbox is a great idea for a fennec since it is their natural instinct to dig and since they love to dig they can become destructive to a home setting since it is their natural tendency (keep this in mind before adopting!).
